ITSM basics
What does an ITSM platform do?

What is the difference between ITSM and ESM?
ITSM is service management for IT. Enterprise service management (ESM) applies the same intake, routing and tracking to HR, facilities, finance and other teams, often on the same platform.

Do we need ITIL to run ITSM?
No. ITIL is guidance, not a requirement. Most mid-market teams adopt a few practices first, usually incident, request and knowledge, and add change and problem management as they grow.
